Statistics: Gap between Russia’s birth, death rates keeps widening

MOSCOW, Aug 14 (PRIME) -- The number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 27.6% in January–June compared with 21% in the same period of 2018, Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service said in a statement on Wednesday.

The amount of newly born children fell 8.1% on the year to 719,650 in January–June, while the amount of deaths fell 3% to 918,500. Natural decline of population increased by 34,660 people to 198,850 people in the period.

Out of all Russian regions, only 16 showed a natural population increase, with the increase in Moscow showing the best dynamics by rising more than eight times to 6,241 people in the period.
